What is a Humanist Wedding Ceremony?
I'm very proud to be an accredited Humanists UK wedding celebrant, which means I'm part of a network of celebrant colleagues who have undergone rigorous training, and work to the very highest industry standards.
A Humanist wedding is a non-religious wedding ceremony, centred on the love and commitment between two people and where nothing else matters - be this ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender or anything else.
Of course you don’t need to be a Humanist yourself to have a Humanist wedding ceremony. In fact, the complete opposite applies with inclusivity for all regardless of faith, creed, race, gender, sexual orientation or anything else. Everyone is welcome!
Many couples choose a Humanist ceremony as they want to celebrate their union in a manner that is non religious and is inclusive of all beliefs.
However, non-religious doesn't mean anti-religious. Everyone is welcome at a Humanist Ceremony!
Will we need to register our
wedding for it to be official?
It’s hoped that the law in England and Wales will very shortly be brought into line with Scotland and Northern Ireland where Humanist weddings have been legally recognised since 2005 (it was once again discussed in the House of Lords as recently as May 2022 and is due to have a second reading in June), however for now, you’ll also need to do the 'legal bit' at a registery office.
It's a pain, and it's discriminatory (the High Court stated so in its 2020 ruling) but I can advise you on how to do this with minimum cost.
Most couples who do usually get this out of the way shortly before their their Humanist ceremony, with this seen as their ‘proper wedding’, but of course you don’t need to do this at all if you don’t wish to legally register your marriage.

"Nothing has been too much trouble and Paul has really taken the time to get to know us and what we wanted. I would highly recommended him to anyone looking to book a Wedding Celebrant!
We've already recommended him to 2 other couples."

After contacting Paul, he was extremely accommodating and made sure that everything was exactly as we imagined on the day. Paul was easy to talk to and from our first meeting he put us at ease. He listened to everything we wanted and really got to know us as a couple, creating a script which was perfect.
Paul conducted a fantastic ceremony that many of our friends and family commented on saying how lovely it was and how it was a nice change from a traditional wedding ceremony.
We would highly recommend Paul!

Paul was our wedding celebrant & he was incredible, not only did he mention every little detail wanted but he also helped with our vows and they were nothing short of amazing. Our day wouldn’t have been the same without him, not to mention helping calm my nerves at the end of the aisle.
Thank you so much Paul we will never forget what you did for us & we can’t thank you enough!
